Biography
Dr William Coetzee is Professor in Pediatrics, Professor in the Department of Physiology and Neuroscience, Professor the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, Director of Basic Research in the Department of Pediatrics and the Director of Research in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at NYU School of Medicine. He has had funding from the American Heart Association (including an Established Investigator Award), the National Institutes of Health and the Masonic District. Dr Coetzee has served on the Editorial Boards of several scientific journals and he participates in peer review of manuscripts and grants. Dr Coetzee’s research focus is in ion channel function, particularly as it relates to rhythm disorders and ischemic heart disease. His current research is focused on KATP channel subcellular trafficking as it relates to protection of the ischemic heart and on genetic variation of ion channel genes in cases of sudden infant death syndrome.
